One-day excursion through Basel

During the historical and architectural tour through Basel, you will be surprised in many ways. Finish your visit with a nostalgic crossing of the river Rhine by one of the unique Basel ferries.

Zoo
Inhabitants of Basel lovingly refer to their zoo, opened in 1874, by the diminutive of “Zolli”. Some six thousand animals, about six hundred species, live in this park of around 28 acres. About a million visitors come to the “Zolli” every year. This puts Basel’s zoo second only to Switzerland’s most popular attraction, the Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen.

Augusta Raurica
The Roman town of Augusta Raurica is the biggest archaeological open-air museum in northwestern Switzerland. Stroll through the ruins of the town, the Roman domestic animal park and the theater, and let yourself be carried off into the world of the ancient Romans. Next to impressive ruins, in the museum, many exhibits such as the silver treasure and the “Casa Romana” give insight into the life of the Roman town.
